Sugababes Change Tour with Flexible Meyer Sound MICA PA System

BRIT Award-Winning Sugababes Sound Delightful on the “Change Tour” with a Flexible Meyer Sound MICA System

Named as “the most successful UK all-female act of the 21st century,” Sugababes continue to be a force to be reckoned with. In support of the pop trio’s fifth album, Change, Sugababes is performing throughout the UK on a series of sold-out dates.

London’s Canegreen is supporting the tour with a flexible self-powered Meyer Sound MICA system, frequently rearranged for the tour’s varied venues. “We’ve been obliged to reconfigure it depending on where we are,” says FOH Engineer Andrew Thornton. “It’s no problem at all, as the fundamental tonality of the system is unchanged.”

Yan Stile, Canegreen’s Managing Director, is pleased with the performance of the system. “The MICA array was really the obvious choice for the Sugababes’ tour,” says Stile. “It’s got the power to deliver the mix, and great articulation and imaging to handle the vocals. And it’s lightweight and quick to rig and tune; you just hang it and you’re ready.”

Two hangs of 12 MICA line array loudspeakers serve as the main system. Low frequency content is amply handled by six 700-HP subwoofers. Side and front fills are covered by four MSL-4 loudspeakers and a pair of UPA-1P loudspeakers. A Galileo loudspeaker management system provides system drive and processing, and Thornton mixes the band on a Digidesign console.

Founded in 1982 by Stile and Director Peter Edmonds, Canegreen has provided its Meyer Sound rigs to countless tours over the past quarter-century. “We’ve been using Meyer gear pretty much since the beginning and it’s held us in good stead,” says Stile. “We’ve still got MSL-3 and MSL-4 systems that we bought many years ago, and we still use them regularly. It’s a great return on our investment.”

In addition to the Sugababes, Canegreen has been busy this year touring with k.d. Lang, Morrissey, Megadeth and the Enemy, as well as productions including the Cambridge Folk Festival and NME’s Big Gig at the O2 Arena.

“Canegreen’s reputation as a leader in live sound is based on providing exceptional service and the best equipment,” Stile concludes. “We rely on Meyer Sound systems and stake our reputation on their performance as well as on our own. Meyer Sound gear has become recognized as the ultimate system for all applications. When customers hear ‘Meyer Sound,’ they think perfection; they think no compromise.”
