SLS Loudspeakers PRD8COM in-ceiling loudspeaker system
SLS Loudspeakers introduced the new PRD8COM in-ceiling loudspeaker system at AES 2004. The SLS PRD8COM is an advanced professional in-ceiling loudspeaker that provides high-fidelity performance in line with current digital specifications for commercial applications.
"With the advent of high definition digital audio program delivery systems such as DVD-Audio, SACD and digital broadcast, and the resulting enhanced frequency response and dynamic range, the need arose to bring the in-ceiling-type installation to a higher performance level," says Jeff Lowry, director of marketing for SLS. "The PRD8COM accomplishes this mission by providing excellent sonic clarity, power handling capacity and design flexibility for any in-ceiling installation. We believe the industry will enthusiastically embrace this new product."
The PRD8COM combines a proprietary NEO-3 PDR Neodymium high frequency ribbon-driver with a high-tech Kevlar TM cone 8" low frequency driver to form a uniquely competent 2-Way Coaxial Hybrid speaker system. Housed in either the 1 cu. ft. (28L) DX108 Backbox or the 0.5 cu. ft. (14L) DX58 Backbox, the PRD8COM is at home in both hard ceiling and hanging ceiling installations.
The NEO-3 PDR (Progressive Drive and Radiation technology) ribbon-driver used in the PRD8COM has an extremely wide dispersion, providing even, balanced coverage over the entire listening area. The ribbon-driver produces signals reaching into the ultrasonic frequency range up to 25 kHz, insuring maximum fidelity and precise reproduction of contemporary digital audio formats. This results in excellent transient response and unsurpassed accuracy of reproduction. Additionally, the tweeter can be pivoted +/-10 degrees for precise aiming and providing an optimum coverage and installation flexibility under extreme conditions.
The low frequency transducer features high efficiency motor structure with high excursion capabilities and very low distortion. An advanced KevlarTM cone results in excellent clarity even at extreme SPL output levels.
The PRD8COM uses high quality crossover components like polypropylene capacitors to insure minimum distortion and preservation of accurate signal structure and resolution. The PRD8COM features a 60W high performance low loss transformer for 70V operation. A rotary switch positioned on the front panel allows for multiple power taps selection, as well as for 8 ohms direct connection. The system handles up to 400 Watts of peak power with an EIA RS-426A rating of 100 Watts. The frequency response is 45 to 25kHz.
