PROCO Concertmaster Snake Live Sound Cable System: Bigger and Better
Pro Co Sound’s new 64-channel Concertmaster, multi-pin snake system eliminates many of the shortcomings of the current 56-channel, Mil-C 5015 format while remaining totally compatible. The system is designed for touring sound companies, Broadway shows, colleges, houses of worship and other large scale permanent and portable sound systems.
Available in 48, 56 and 64-channel configurations, Concertmaster touring snake systems feature low impedance audio channels in a reliable circular, water tight mil spec configuration connector. Outstanding multi pin connector reliability is accomplished through gold-plated removable machined contacts in a rugged metal shell featuring a bayonet style locking mechanism with no threads to strip or bind.
The all-machined construction, thick wall coupling rings, shells and hard-wearing finish offer the trade reliable connections for up to 2,000 insertions. To assure mating is reliable, the 201 pin connectors for the 64-channel standard are equipped with an overkill mating scheme using a 5 key/5 keyway system making it impossible to misalign connectors. All connectors include a heavy-duty dust cap. The Concertmaster line also features 16-gauge steel enclosure I/O boxes in a floor or 19" rack box configuration with a main and secondary parallel feed as standard. Ground lifts and transformer isolation are optional.
Concertmaster Fanouts and Line tails have color-coded heat shrink on individual channels in bundled groups of eight. Individual channel numbers are hot stamped onto the heat shrink for easy identification. Concertmaster trunks are offered in lengths of 25’-300’ in increments of 25’ with Pro Co’s Duralink, a CL2 rated multi pair audio cable. The 64-channel standard is constructed with 67 pair wire and connectors are 201-pin type providing up to 67 channels, or three spares for repairs. The hermaphroditic design allows either end of the trunk to be pulled to stage or FOH. Extension trunks are available in lengths of 50’, 100’, 150’, 250’, and 300’ with male multi pin on one end and female on the other, allowing daisy-chaining trunks.
Another key improvement in the Concertmaster multi pin snake system is Pro Co’s extensive customer support services beginning with a full line print and Web catalog and pricing. Pro Co also offers Concertmaster connectors, gold crimp contacts and all tools and pinout charts in a hard copy, CD and web tutorial making end-user ordering and wiring simplicity itself. "We offer full-motion video tutorials as well, but having Pro Co do the work in six hours rather than up to 80 hours for the end user is usually preferable when time is money in the shop," said Pro Co Founder Charlie Wicks.
