Festung Kufstein gets Meyer Sound PA Speakers
Festung Kufstein (which translates as "Fortress Arena Kufstein"), a state-of-the-art multimedia event center located just below Austria’s northern border, recently received an extensive and thorough makeover of its stage and media technology systems. Most notably, the historic site’s 4,500-seat arena acquired an impressive Meyer Sound audio system featuring M’elodie ultracompact high-power curvilinear array loudspeakers.
Kraftwerk Living Technologies, a leading stage and entertainment technology company based in Wels, Austria, designed a system comprised of two arrays of eight M’elodie loudspeakers, augmented by two UPA-2P compact narrow coverage loudspeakers for nearfield fill, and a pair of 700-HP ultrahigh-power subwoofers to cover low frequencies. A Soundcraft mixing console completes the audio system. Kraftwerk also designed the venue’s lighting system and other visual elements.
“The M’elodie system was the ideal choice for the Fortress Arena Kufstein,” says Christian Hofer, Kraftwerk’s managing director and technical manager. “The quality of sound the system produces is absolutely superb, and far more powerful than one would expect from a system of its size. And equally important, the system’s size creates minimal impact on the aesthetics of this historic venue.”
Hofer also points out that the retractable roof offers more than just protection from bad weather. “The acoustical performance of the M’elodie system, while excellent in an open air setting, is actually enhanced when the roof’s fabric is in place,” he says. “And the roof also makes an excellent atmospheric backdrop for the lighting, which can be used to accent and underscore the uniqueness of the structure’s architecture.”
Fortress Arena Kufstein was originally built as a defensive stronghold in the steep Dolomites region of the Alps that runs between Switzerland, Austria, and northern Italy’s Tirol area. After an extensive renovation process that began in 1997, the expansive castle was restored and redeveloped to become a popular tourist attraction, as well as a unique, multipurpose event center for weddings, conventions, concerts, and other special events.
